About Us

Founded in 1892, Historic First Lutheran Church is a warm and welcoming multi-ethnic, Cathedral-Style Ministry of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.

Historic First Lutheran is one of the oldest churches in Pasadena.  It is also the San Gabriel Valley's oldest Lutheran congregation. The church building itself is over 75 years old and is designated a Pasadena City Landmark. Through the churches Historic First Lutheran founded, all other Lutheran Churches in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties have been started, making Historic First Lutheran the Mother/Grandmother/Great-Grandmother church of those counties.

Today, Historic First Lutheran has 250 members that are 40 percent black, 40 percent white, and 20 percent Latino.

Programs designed to minister to body and soul are offered for people of all ages. Our convenient location close to downtown Pasadena enables people from throughout Southern California to attend our worship services and get involved in our mission and ministry.
