Bulletin Announcements from 8/28/2011

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Michealene Melus in celebration of Carol’s 50th birthday. Flowers are also given to the glory of God by Carol Schlichting in celebration of the 53rd anniversary of her parents, Ed & Lois.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S LOVE The additional bouquet of roses on the altar are from the more than 150 bushes on our church campus. They are a reminder to us of God’s love and constant provision for all our needs.

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OF GOD! Today, through the waters of Holy Baptism, we welcome Tatiana Maravilla to God’s family. Tatiana’s mother is Elena Marchany. Her grandfather is Felix E. Marchany. Her sponsors are Karina Vasquez and Felix O. Marchany. Welcome, Tatiana!

SPECIAL THANKS Thanks again today to Matt Bennett for serving as our guest organist these past 2 Sundays while Mark is in South Africa.

PANHANDLING We have recently had experiences with people panhandling and selling items in the Narthex after worship. The Board of Elders and Board of Directors kindly ask that you not give money to anyone who approaches you on church property but refer them to the Board of Elders. Thank you!

PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAPS! We’re searching for theme ideas for our 120th Anniversary in 2012. If you desire, please write suggested themes for consideration on the back of your attendance cards.

PROUD OF HISTORIC FIRST LUTHERAN? Show your pride by purchasing Historic First Lutheran note cards and using them for your correspondence. Note cards and envelopes come ten to a package for $5.00 and are available in blue, green or red. See Pastor Schaar to purchase!

SUNDAY SCHOOL TO RESUME Children of all ages – and their parents – should remember that weekly Sunday School resumes on Sunday 11 September at 9:00 a.m. in Koch Hall.

“GOOD FRIDAY” RESUMES Our “Good Friday” Youth Outreach resumes Friday 9 September at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. This program is for children and youth aged 4 to 20-something.

MUSIC MINISTRY RESUMES All current and prospective members of our Sanctuary Choir and Omega Handbell Choir are reminded that choir rehearsals resume on Tuesday 13 September at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary and that handbell rehearsals resume on Tuesday 20 September at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

LAST CHANCE Anyone desiring to include a friend or loved one’s name to the All Saints’ Garden plaque, the deadline for your $100.00 per name contribution is Sunday 25 September.

FALL MEMBERSHIP INVITATION All people not currently members of Historic First Lutheran are invited to join the congregation this fall. There are different ways to formally become a member – either by transferring your membership from another Lutheran church; by affirmation of faith (previously a member at another Lutheran church); or by an independent study and one-day membership class. Please speak to Pastor Schaar if you’re interested in becoming a member of Historic First Lutheran.

$259.00 SENT TO MISSIONS Thanks to your generosity in filling your Mite Boxes to overflowing, we sent another $259.00 to support missions this past week. That brings our year-to-date total to $1,878.00.

USHERS: TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #3 – Asunta Barnes and Michael Dickens.
