Bulletin Announcements from 10/31/2010

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Patricia Rouse in celebration of the birthday of her mother, Vernita, and to thank her for all the things she has done.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S LOVE The additional bouquet of roses on the altar are from the more than 150 bushes on our church campus. They are a reminder to us of God’s love and constant provision for all our needs.

OUR RED PARAMENTS The red paraments adorning our altar, lectern and pulpit are gifts in loving memory of Lola Headrick. They are red for the entire month of October as we celebrate the Reformation of the Church. Red is the color of fire and also symbolizes the presence of God. It is considered the color of the Church since red also symbolizes the blood of the martyrs. Our particular parament set is called “Divine Love.” The altar parament includes seven tongues of fire, symbolic of the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation. The tongues of fire are flanked by two doves, each surrounded by a nimbus and carrying an olive branch, symbolic of the Holy Spirit and the peace He brings. The pulpit parament is almost a mirror image of the altar parament. The lectern parament also contains the seven tongues of fire, superceded by the Cross, a reminder that the job of the outpoured Spirit is to lead people to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

A NEW WORSHIP FEATURE! You will notice that each hymn or song will include some Scripture references. This new feature emphasizes the fact that we use hymns and songs that are Biblical in basis. These references are intended to give you some additional personal study time in God’s living Word in the week following each service. Let us know what you think!

HELP SELECT 2011'S MOTTO It’s that time of the year when Pastor Schaar formulates our congregational motto for next year. If you have any suggestions for Pastor to consider, please write it on the back of your attendance card.

“DOWNTOWN” NEWSLETTER AVAILABLE Issue #11 of “Downtown,” edited by Pastor Schaar is available free for the taking from the Information Rack in the Narthex. PRAYER FORCE ONE! When Air Force One flies into town (as it did again two weeks ago), it’s an awesome sight, a sign and symbol of strength and power. The same is true of our own “Prayer Force One” which gathers around the Baptismal Font each Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 Noon. You are invited to join in this weekly sign of strength and power which comes from our great God! Please enter the church from the South Parking Lot and Center Courtyard, entering by the side doors by the piano.

ANOTHER $215.OO RECEIVED! Two weeks ago, we were notified that another $215.00 was directed to Historic First Lutheran from Thrivent Choice dollars. Thanks to all who have directed their Thrivent Choice dollars to us. If you’ve not yet done so, ask Pastor Schaar how to accomplish this task.

MITE BOX UPDATE Another $157.00 has been mailed to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, proceeds from our “Mite Box” collections. That brings our overall “Mite Box” total during 2010 so far to $2,559.39! Way to go!

USHERS: TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #2: Rogelio Douglas, Mark Hagander and Mary Hagander.
