Bulletin Announcements from 4/11/2010

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Charlie Freeny in thanksgiving to God for His many blessings and the special occasion of this milestone birthday of her son, Gerald Freeny. Flowers are also given to the glory of God by the Price family in loving memory of their father, Wilford Price, and their aunt, Jerutha Garrett.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S LOVE The additional bouquet of roses on the altar are from the more than 150 bushes on our church campus. They are a reminder to us of God’s love and constant provision for all our needs.

OUR WHITE PARAMENTS The beautiful white paraments adorning our altar, lectern and pulpit were lovingly donated in memory of Paul W. Daniels, 1923 - 1984. White is the color for purity, holiness and righteousness. Our particular parament set is called “The Great I Am.” The altar parament includes the Cross in the center, surrounded by the words “I Am,” a reminder of many of Jesus’ claims about Himself. A “Chi Ro” rises out of the top of the Cross, representing the first two Greek letters of the Name “Christ.” On the extreme sides of the altar parament are the Greek letters “Alpha” and “Omega,” reminding us that Christ is the Beginning and the End. The lectern parament contains the combined Cross and “Chi Ro” seen on the altar parament. The pulpit parament contains the Alpha and the Omega seen on the altar parament. Particularly designed for the Easter Season (although also used for Christmas and Epiphany), our parament set contains what looks to be lightning flashes, reminding us of the brilliance of the Christmas Star and the Resurrection of Jesus.

HAVE A CARE OR CONCERN? Historic First Lutheran sponsors a 30 minute prayer service every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. If you are unable to attend, please communicate your need for prayer to Pastor Schaar.

NEXT SUNDAY Bring your “Mighty Mite Boxes” filled with coins and bills for missions. You may pick up a “Mite Box” today from the table in the Narthex. Return it next Sunday filled with change.

TEDDY BEAR COLLECTION Congregation members and others are invited to join in this wonderful project for children who will visit their mothers on Mother's Day, not at home, but at Chino Women’s Prison. Help make their visit a comfortable one by donating a teddy bear, at least 8 inches in height. Please place in the Green Room or give to Ann Price, Harriet Dickens, Zora Oglesby or Carol Numrich. Gifts of cash may also be given and teddy bears will be purchased. Collection will be completed at the Lutheran Women's Fellowship event on May 1.

COME TO THE GARDEN ALONE – OR WITH A FRIEND! Spring planting has beautified the Margaret Fackler Memorial Garden, located between the Church and Koch Hall. Come early to church – or stay late – and enjoy the meditation bench, flowing fountain and blooming flowers.

OLD HABITS DIE HARD! To all individuals and groups using the church kitchen, please note that we have two refrigerators and one freezer. The freezer sits next to the water heater and the two refrigerators are in the “annex.” Recently, items intended to be placed into a refrigerator were mistakenly placed into the freezer, providing us frozen ketchup and mustard. Please make sure items are put into the proper place.

PORTALS OF PRAYERS The April – June issue of “Portals of Prayer,” a daily devotional booklet, is available from the Information Rack in the Narthex.

DOWNTOWN NEWSLETTER AVAILABLE Copies of “Downtown,” Issue #8, edited by our own Pastor Schaar, are available from the Information Rack in the Narthex.

USHERS: TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #1: Bernadette Hendry, Greg Hendry and Ann Price.
