ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Pastor Christopher Schaar in grateful recognition of the life, ministry and world-changing reforms of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which have enabled Historic First Lutheran Church of Pasadena to be the loving, integrated congregation it is today.
2009 END OF THE YEAR FINANCIAL SUMMARY It’s official! With all 2009 income deposited and all 2009 bills paid, we closed out 2009 with a deficit of $4,070.91. That’s only slightly higher than our deficit at the end of 2008 and will be covered by our Reserve
Cash Fund.
HELP NEEDED! Additional members are being sought to fill vacant positions on our Altar Guild. This is a great volunteer position for women and men. Please speak to Shelly Daniels for more information.
2010 FLOWER CHART There are still a number of dates available throughout 2010 to donate altar flowers. Please check out the chart in the Narthex today!
YARD SALE Our Spanish Ministry is planning a fund-raising yard sale in February, so start setting aside all that valuable “stuff” you’d like to donate and watch for further details.
IMMEDIATE ATTENTION REQUIRED Contribution statements for 2009 have been mailed. Please review yours carefully. All possible errors must be reported to the Church Administrative Center (626.793.1139) by Tuesday 2 February.
TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY Bishop Larry Stoterau will preach and assist with the confirmations of Kevin Baumgartner and Christopher Rivera on 31 January. A luncheon will follow the service.
TWO THANKS Thanks are offered to Taina Feher as she is busy updating our First Lutheran Banner as well as our Confirmation Banner. Thanks also to Dennis Schaar who has begun the task of pruning Historic First Lutheran’s 150+ roses.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? Pastor Schaar has been challenged by Pastor Steve Massey from St. Paul’s Church in Phoenix to join him in September on a 25-mile Rim-to-Rim hike of the Grand Canyon. This hike would be a fundraiser for Urban Ministries of The Pacific Southwest District, with 10% of monies raised benefitting our local congregation and 90% turned over to the District for work elsewhere. What do you think about this?
SPECIAL PRAYERS Kevin Baumgartner is attending the “Taste of the Sem” event this weekend at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Please keep him in your prayers.
ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH Everyone is invited to attend our Bible/Prayer Breakfast this Saturday at 8:00 a.m. in the Green Room. Pastor Schaar will be cooking and teaching.
USHERS: TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #3 – Chris Baker, Asunta Barnes and Michael Dickens.
