Bulletin Announcements from 5/17/2009

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Phyllis Price in celebration of the birthday of her mother, Betty Barnett, on 16 May.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S PROVISION AND LOVE The extra bouquet of roses on the altar are from the 140+ roses around our church campus. They are a reminder of God’s eternal love for us.

STAY HEALTHY! As you have heard on the news, H1N1 FLU (Swine Flu) is a global health concern. There are known cases in the U.S., including California. The Center for Disease Control has information on their website which would be helpful to our constituents. The website is www.cdc.gov/swineflu/. Basically, following good health habits will reduce chances of contracting the disease. What can you do to stay healthy? There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way. Try to avoid close contact with sick people. If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.

GOD DOES PROVIDE! Not only is this a Biblical truth evidenced in both the Old and New Testaments, but it’s a real-life statement we experience here at Historic First Lutheran. Thanks to your generous giving during the month of April, we have reduced our congregational deficit to only $1,053.54. Please continue to prayerfully consider additional gifts as God provides for you and, through you, God provides for Historic First Lutheran.

USHERS: TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #3 – Chris Baker, Asunta Barnes and Michael Dickens.
