ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Zora Oglesby in thanksgiving to God for His many blessings, in loving memory of the birthday of her mother and in celebration of the birthday of her sister.
SPECIAL THANKS! Thanks are due to Elder John Ochetti for preaching for us today!
MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES Don’t forget about our Lenten services every Wednesday at 12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m. This week’s topic is “Deliverance.”
ANNUAL MATCHING FUNDS Again this year, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has granted us $1,020.00 in matching funds to financially undergird our music ministry and Spanish worshiping community. Gifts made between now and 5/31/09, designated for the Special Fundraiser will be matched dollar for dollar.
LUTHERAN WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP This Saturday, March 7 is our quarterly meeting. Our speaker is a woman who was imprisoned three times for sharing her Christian faith with family and friends. She was disowned by her father who wanted her to renounce her faith, but she clung to that faith. She now is in America continuing her religious studies. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m.
TEDDY BEAR COLLECTION You can now bring your teddy bears to the Green Room for delivery to children who will celebrate Mother's Day this year with their mother at Chino Women's Prison. The cuddly bears give them comfort and a sense of security. The bears should be medium or large in size, but not extra large. Open to all congregation members.
HONORED AGAIN! Again this year, Historic First Lutheran claims the honor of being THE FASTEST GROWING LUTHERAN CHURCH IN PASADENA. With just 45 days into 2009, we have already welcomed 11 new members this year: 7 new members by adult or junior confirmation; 1 new member by transfer; 3 new members by baptism.
IDEA EXCHANGE AND BRUNCH Our Board of Evangelism is starting the first step in our “Core Values” study. All members and regular worshipers are invited to attend a brunch on Saturday 28 March at 10:00 a.m. in the Green Room. RSVP to Harriet Dickens at (626) 398-1565.
PLEASE DON’T FORGET Next Sunday is “Time Change Sunday.” Please remember to set your clocks AHEAD one hour this Saturday night.
A DATE TO SAVE! Sunday 14 June will celebrate Pastor Schaar’s 15th year in the ministry and his 15th year of service here at Historic First Lutheran. The guest preacher that day will be The Reverend Stanley A. Quebe, the pastor who confirmed Pastor Schaar and also preached at his ordination in 1994.
LENTEN DEVOTIONS AVAILABLE Daily lenten devotional booklets provided by the Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots are available from the Information Rack in the Church Narthex.
USHERS TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #7 – Kevin Baumgartner, Daniel Hendry, Steven Hendry and James Price.
