ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by The Reverend William Fackler in grateful recognition of God’s rich blessings in our marriage, which would have been Margaret’s and my 59th anniversary on 30 October.
A REMINDER OF LOVE The extra bouquet of roses on the altar today are from the more than 140 rose bushes blooming around the campus of Historic First Lutheran. They are a reminder of God’s eternal love for us and His unbreakable promise to provide for all our needs.
RED PARAMENTS The red paraments adorning our altar, lectern and pulpit are gifts in loving memory of Lola Headrick.
FALL BACK Don’t forget to set your clocks BACK one hour this coming Saturday night.
NEXT SUNDAY! Our annual All Saints’ Day and Commemoration of the Faithful Departed will take place at 10:00 a.m. You won’t want to miss this moving service! Wear WHITE clothing as a sign of Christ’s victory over death!
CLARIFYING OUR SPANISH MINISTRY Contrary to some perceptions out there, Historic First Lutheran is ONE congregation, not an English congregation and a side-by-side Spanish congregation. With the exception of the language difference, we are ONE congregation that worships at two different times on Sundays. We have a unified budget. Both Pastors equally record their official acts in our Parish Register. There is not even any talk about a future separate Spanish congregation. So, when talking or thinking about Historic First Lutheran, please don’t use language like “us” or “them,” rather just use “us!”
ANY SUGGESTIONS? Pastor Schaar is working on our congregational motto for 2009. If you have any suggestions you’d like considered, please share with Pastor.
SAVE THE DATE NOW! Historic First Lutheran will sponsor an “Equipping to Share” workshop on Saturday 21 February. All members are encouraged to attend. A continental breakfast and catered lunch will be provided.
FALL RALLY Zone 7 of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will gather on Saturday 8 November at Our Savior Lutheran, 512 W. Duarte Rd., in Arcadia. Continental breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m. Jean Sorokin, missionary to China, will be the speaker. Transportation will be provided from our South Parking Lot at 8:30 a.m. Speak to Carol Numrich for more information.
