ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God and for the edification of His people by Pastor Christopher Schaar in honor of his father’s birthday yesterday and in loving memory of the birthday of his grandmother, Charlotte Thorsen.
A REMINDER OF GOD’S PROVISION AND LOVE The extra bouquet of roses on the altar are from the 140+ roses around our church campus. They are a reminder of God’s eternal love for us.
CLARIFYING OUR SPANISH MINISTRY Contrary to some perceptions out there, Historic First Lutheran is ONE congregation, not an English congregation and a side-by-side Spanish congregation. With the exception of the language difference, we are ONE congregation that worships at two different times on Sundays. We have a unified budget. Both Pastors equally record their official acts in our Parish Register. There is not even any talk about a future separate Spanish congregation. So, when talking or thinking about Historic First Lutheran, please don’t use language like “us” or “them,” rather just use “us!”
ANY SUGGESTIONS? Pastor Schaar is working on our congregational motto for 2009. If you have any suggestions you’d like considered, please share with Pastor.
OUR APOLOGIES! We’re sorry we ran out of wine at last Sunday’s Oktoberfest. We purchased as much wine as we do every year and actually had fewer reservations than past years. Everyone must have decided to drink wine this year. We’re sorry we ran out. It won’t happen in the future!
THANKS TO EVERYONE! Thanks to one and all who pitched in to make last Sunday’s Oktoberfest a great success! From the set-up crew on Saturday to the set-up crew Sunday morning to our band to our chefs to everyone who helped clean up, Thank You!
SAVE THE DATE NOW! Historic First Lutheran will sponsor an “Equipping to Share” workshop on Saturday 21 February. All members are encouraged to attend. A continental breakfast and catered lunch will be provided.
NEXT SUNDAY To celebrate Martin Luther’s start of the Protestant Reformation of the Church, the great majority of our worship hymns will be from the pen of Martin Luther himself. Come and celebrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
WEAR RED NEXT SUNDAY! As we celebrate Reformation Sunday next week, everyone is encouraged to wear red, the color of the Church.
USHERS TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #4 – Doris Barnes, Taina Feher and Paul Nagle.
