Bulletin Announcements from 8/17/2008

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Charlie Freeny in thanksgiving to God for His many blessings, in thanksgiving for the love and support of family, friends and medical staff during her illness, and in loving memory of the birthday of her sister, Pat Overshoun.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S PROVISION AND LOVE The extra bouquet of roses on the altar are from the 140+ roses around our church campus. They are a reminder of God’s eternal love for us.

OUR APOLOGIES Last week’s bulletin omitted the donation of altar flowers by Mary and Mark Hagander, who were married here at Historic First Lutheran three years ago. Flowers were donated in honor of their anniversary. Our apologies for this omission!

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OF GOD! Today, through the waters of Holy Baptism, we welcome to the family of God Nicholas Michael Widdoss and his mother, Shirley Widdoss. Nicholas’ sponsors are Kelly and David Beller from Texas.

GERALD FREENY TO BE HONORED The Pasadena Branch of the NAACP will present Gerald Freeny with its “Community Award” on Thursday 11 September at 7:00 p.m. at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel. Tickets are $150.00 per person. To be seated together at a First Lutheran table, please make check payable to The Pasadena NAACP and hand it to Pastor Schaar by Thursday 28 August. He will make sure you get registered.

FLOWER DONATION DATES AVAILABLE For the rest of 2008, there are still a couple of Sundays that need donors for the altar flowers. Please stop by the sign-up board in the Narthex and sign up! Flowers are $50.00 for two bouquets.

LEADER TO LEADER Pastor Schaar’s latest issue of “Leader to Leader” is available from the Information Rack in the Church Narthex. This issue deals with getting tired in leadership. This resource is distributed to our elected church leadership and is e-mailed by request to churches and pastors across the country.

DOWNTOWN The third issue of “Downtown,” edited by Pastor Schaar and mailed to more than 400 downtown churches and church leaders across the country, is available today from the Information Rack in the Church Narthex. Topics included in this issue are parking and funding and the unique challenges downtown churches face with those two problems. Get your copy today.

USHERS TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #3– Chris Baker, Asunta Barnes and Michael Dickens.
