Bulletin Announcements from 8/10/2008

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Corine and Lanie Motley in loving memory of Grandmother Cora Bryant’s birth on 1 August 1887.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S PROVISION AND LOVE The extra bouquet of roses on the altar are from the 140+ roses around our church campus. They are a reminder of God’s eternal love for us.

WELCOME OUR NEWEST MEMBERS! We are happy to officially welcome Kurt and Kevin Baumgartner. Kurt and Kevin transferred their membership to us from Immanuel Lutheran in Palatine, IL.

EXERCISE CLASS A new program started on 19 July – a weekly Exercise Class every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the “Salon” (Koch Hall). Sixteen people attended the first class. All members of Historic First Lutheran are invited to attend and participate!

P2P CONTINUES Pastor continues weekly home visits to congregation members and regular worshipers who invite him into their home. A sign-up sheet with all the available dates and times through August is posted in the Narthex. Sign-up today!

THE SHACK Pastor has just finished reading a wonderful fiction book called The Shack by William P. Young. He highly recommends it. It’s the story of a man who gets to spend three days with God. Reading this book has spawned an idea about a quarterly book discussion group. Interested? Speak to Pastor Schaar.

MORE YOUTH TO BE CONFIRMED Jadin Rosas and Kevin Baumgartner are both working through confirmation preparation classes with Pastor Schaar through independent study. We anticipate welcoming these two young men into our church membership later this year.

BAPTISMS TODAY AT 1:00 P.M. Pastor Gómez will baptize two infants today during the Spanish worship service at 1:00 p.m. All are invited to attend.

BAPTISM OF NICHOLAS WIDDOSS The newborn son of Shirley and Mike Widdoss, whom Pastor Schaar married 8 years ago, will be baptized next Sunday during our 10:00 a.m. worship. In addition, it appears that mom Shirley will also be baptized!

CONGRATULATIONS! Alice Franzen has become a Great-Great-Grandmother with the birth of Kiara Louise Rios this past Monday. God’s blessings to Alice as well as to the new mother and baby! In addition, Pastor Bill Fackler became a Great Grandfather for the third time on Wednesday with the birth of Giacomo (James) Keller in Rome Italy, son of Peter and Ramona Keller.

CHOIR AND HANDBELLS Rehearsals will be resuming in September. Additional voices and ringers are being sought. Express your interest to Karen Murphy, our Music Director. Experience not required.

MASSIVE CLEANING PROJECT Following the completion of the kitchen tile installation project, major cleaning will be required for all cabinets and dishes in the kitchen. Several morning or afternoon work days will be scheduled. Please speak to Pastor Schaar if you are willing to help.

ANOTHER MONTH IN THE BLACK! July marked the second month during 2008 when our budget showed a monthly balance. Thanks to your generous contributions, our monthly income during July exceeded monthly expenses by $1,347.76, reducing our year-to-date deficit to $7,634.95. Thanks for your generous support of our mission and ministry!

NEXT SUNDAY Bring your “Mighty Mite Boxes” filled with coins and bills for missions. You may pick up a “Mite Box” today from the table in the Narthex. Return it next Sunday filled with change.

USHERS TAKE NOTE Next week’s service will involve Usher Team #2– Zora Oglesby, Chad Schmutzer and Julie Schmutzer.
