Bulletin Announcements from 7/27/2008

ALTAR FLOWERS are given to the glory of God by Carol Numrich in loving memory of her parents, Fred and Jessie Numrich, and her brother and sister-in-law, David and Lois Numrich.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S PROVISION AND LOVE The extra bouquet of roses on the altar are from the 140+ roses around our church campus. They are a reminder of God’s eternal love for us.

CONGRATULATIONS! God’s blessings upon Ginny Martens who again became a Great Grandmother recently with the birth of Emily Cecile Marie Martens, daughter of Christian Martens and Stacey Laird. Emily was born prematurely in Houston on 12 July, weighing in at 2 lbs, 4 oz. and 14 3/4 inches. Mother and baby are doing well.

WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT Meg Martens (granddaughter of Ginny) and James Henderson were married on 7/19 at Kinsmen Lutheran Church in Houston. They will reside at the State University in Starksville, Mississippi where James is a professor and Meg will be starting her second Masters Degree in English Literature and will be teaching freshmen English classes. Congratulations!

OUR AUGUST NEWSLETTER Be sure to watch for our upcoming August newsletter. You will notice a change as members of our Board of Directors will be including snippets of information of what’s happening in their area of responsibility. The intent is to better inform the members of the congregation as to what we as a congregation are doing in mission and ministry.

DON’T FORGET! Just about every week, printed copies of Pastor Schaar’s sermons are available from the Information Rack in the Narthex. Recently the number of people taking these resources has declined, leaving a number of copies to be thrown away weekly. Be sure to use this helpful resource if you’d like to ponder further Pastor’s sermon or share it with friends and relatives.

A POWERFUL MINISTRY From its humble beginning last fall, our weekly Prayer Service every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. has grown into a powerful ministry. Please consider joining us!

NEXT SUNDAY You won’t want to miss special music provided next Sunday by Handbell Extrodinaire Linda Krantz. Linda is a handbell soloist. She never fails to impress us and glorify God.

CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS Giving statements reflecting the first six months of 2008 have been mailed. Please review these statements carefully, reporting any potential error to Marilyn Plummer at (626) 399-7102 or mephrc@hotmail.com.

WELCOME OUR NEWEST MEMBER! We are happy to officially welcome Elizabeth Fortner as the newest member of Historic First Lutheran. Elizabeth transferred her membership to us from Peace Lutheran in Camarillo.

P2P CONTINUES Pastor continues weekly home visits to congregation members and regular worshipers who invite him into their home. A sign-up sheet with all the available dates and times through August is posted in the Narthex. Sign-up today!
