THREE WEEKS FROM NOW IS MARDI GRAS SUNDAY! Plan now to attend this jazzy service which will include some of Historic First Lutheran’s own talented musicians. A doughnut reception (a European tradition for Mardi Gras) will follow the service.
I DIDN’T KNOW! Perhaps you didn’t know that our current Church building is the third building in the 115-year history of Historic First Lutheran. The first building, constructed in 1896, at a whopping cost of $856.00, was located at Walnut and Vernon, today the intersection of the 134/210/710 Freeways. The second building, constructed in 1914 at a cost of $9,815.00, is still standing, located on the north side of Orange Grove, just west of Los Robles. Today it is the home of Iglesia La Luz del Mundo.
TERRY KIESCHNICK TO SPEAK AT 7TH WOMEN’’S COMMISSION CONFERENCE Are you a “SHOE LOVER?” Are shoes your passion? What do you know about your shoes? Join the District President’s Commission on Women for its 7th conference on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church in Costa Mesa, CA. We invite you to share a day of fun and fellowship as our featured speaker Terry Kieschnick, the First Lady of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, discusses the topic “Love Your Shoes,” based on Isaiah 52:7. Cost is $25 per person or $20 per person if four or more registrations are sent together. A continental breakfast and lunch are included in the cost. MILESTONE CELEBRATIONS This year, according to Church records, we will be celebrating the 90th birthdays of Lee Klima and Dorothy Reich, as well as the 95th birthday of Laura McCluskey. If we have overlooked anyone’s 90th or 95th birthday or anyone’s 50th/ 55th/ 60th/ 65th/ 70th anniversary, please report that omission immediately to Pastor Schaar.

Tuesday 30 January – It is commonly reported that many missionaries first felt drawn toward mission service by the time they were 12 years old. Pray for adults to provide children opportunities to learn about God’s mission and, in doing so, raise up the next generation of missionaries.
Wednesday 31 January – Pray for LCMS missionary Andrea Herman, who was recently deployed to Guinea, West Africa. Lift up her efforts of evangelism among the women of the Maninka people. Pray that their hearts would be opened to listen to God’s message, and ask that God keep her healthy and safe.
Thursday 1 February – Give thanks to God for more than 25 years of LCMS mission work among Spanish-speaking Panamanians. Pray for the continued growth of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Panama (IELPA) as it develops into a self-sustaining church body.
Friday 2 February – With 30 people (children and parents) attending our “Good Friday” Youth Outreach last week, thank God for this vital mission outreach into our church neighborhood.
Saturday 3 February – Read Psalm 150 and ask God to fill your heart with praise in preparation for worship tomorrow.
